Inspiration Reaches Inner City Buffalo Middle School

Students and Teachers Receiving Space Exploration Materials

Inspiration from ExplorationTM successfully engaged 250 inner city middle school students (5-8th grade) at Buffalo Public School 80 on May 6th 2009.  The students were given an engaging multimedia presentation which sought to inspire students by use of space exploration.

 Questions?

The presentation showed parallels between past explorers (Columbus, Lewis & Clark, the Apollo Program, the Space Shuttle program, and the International Space Station) and future explorers – the students!  Plans to return to the Moon were shown and the students were challenged to create their own future.  At the conclusion of the presentation the students asked very insightful questions including one 5th grader who asked about space debris.  Following the question and answer period a representative from the Buffalo Astronomy Association presented to the children on the possibilities of backyard astronomy.  The program concluded with the distribution of folders containing donated materials to the children and binders containing lessons plans to the teachers.  More pictures can be seen below.
